On July 27, 2024, as part of an ongoing firearm investigation, Grand Rapids RCMP along with the Emergency Response Team, Police Dog Services and the National Weapons Enforcement Support Team, executed a search warrant at a residence on Misipawistik Cree Nation. A search of the residence resulted in the seizure of a firearm, ammunition and drug paraphernalia.

It was believed that the victim was being held against her will at another location and was being assaulted.
