On March 14, 2024, at approximately 5:30 am, Spruce Plains RCMP received a report of an armed robbery at a rest stop on Highway 16 at Highway 10. Four suspects stole a truck at gunpoint and fled westbound. A short time later, Yellowhead RCMP received a report of four suspicious people in Strathclair. Officers attended the community immediately. Three suspects were taken into custody, but the fourth suspect fled on foot. It was believed that he could possibly be armed.

Officers attended and located a 48-year-old male from the community deceased as a result of homicide. The deceased was the resident of the home. RCMP Major Crime Services investigators attended to Emerson. Investigation quickly determined this was an isolated incident and there was no risk to public safety. When officers arrived on scene, the house was completely engulfed. Nobody was believed to be in the building. When the fire was out, the scene was contained and it was determined that the house had been empty when the fire broke out. Nobody was injured.
