RM of Carman & RM of Cartier — Manitoba RCMP Major Crimes investigating 5 deaths

At approximately 7:30 am, on February 11, 2024, Carman RCMP responded to a report of a hit and run on Highway 3, approximately 6.5km south of Carman. When officers arrived, the body of an adult female was located just off the highway in a nearby ditch. She was pronounced deceased on scene. At approximately 10:00am, Headingley RCMP received a call of a vehicle on fire on Highway 248, north of PTH 424 in the RM of Cartier. As officers were en route, a witness was able to pull three young children from the burning vehicle. All three children were declared deceased on scene.

While patrolling the area, officers conducted a traffic stop and recognized the male driver of the vehicle as a person with an outstanding warrant. As the officer was placing the driver under arrest, another traffic stop was being conducted nearby with assistance from Hollow Water First Nation Safety Officers.
